Where to start?
« on: February 18, 2012, 02:27:34 PM »
I know this seems like a dumb question.

but it's just I'm so overwhelmed on where exactly to start with pizza making.

So many different types of crusts, recipes, ratios, etc. So much confusing terminology like the percentages, and water loss, fermentation, yeast vs. commercial risers, etc. etc.

What's the best resource for getting started and understanding the process? A book or just online? Any book or site in particular recommended would be of great help.

thanks

This forum is the book and site all in one.  Not to mention hundreds of live people waiting to help.  For starters, maybe post what you have been trying that you like/ don't like or what you want to achieve.  Everyone was new here sometime. Jump in, the water is fine. Post any specific questions you have. It's pizza time somewhere.

Pick a style, then read about that type.

Just dive in. I started with a simple Ny style and went from there. I still have alot to learn, but damn its fun.
The first pic is my first pie, out of shape not very good but we ate it, second pic i made today. Just practice and learning from mistakes.
I have made plenty, but never had to throw one away. Even bad pizza is pretty good!

The good folks here are better than any book and are a wealth of knowledge.

I second Tom's vote. What style do YOU like and read up on that style.
