Cough syrup
« on: January 01, 2013, 09:20:31 PM »
Mama is under the weather so I made her some homemade cough syrup.   I didn't have exactly the ingredients my grandma used but these worked great:

2 parts honey
2 parts Old Monk rum
1 part fresh squeezed tangerine juice

Start with the juice, then the rum, then the honey and it will all emulsify nicely.

For Daddy-juice I added 2 parts sweet tea and ice, and I ain't sick yet!

Tom,

Thanks, I will remember your post and make your homemade cough syrup when I need it.  The Rum part sounds great!

Hope your Mama soon feels better.

Ours is 2 parts each honey and whiskey (I prefer bourbon) with 1 part fresh lemon juice, all ingredients subject to taste.  Add boiling water to make it a toddy.

Yes, Robyn, that is my Grandma's recipe, but I have no bourbon or lemon juice.

I will have to try that next time I have a cough.
The one that works for me isnt a sryup but it is: beef stock cube/hot water and loads of freshly cracked black pepper.
Works a treat.  ;D
