Some friends of mine, Tom and Peggy, are getting close to opening their new brewpub/pizzeria in the Mt. Airy section of Philly.

Here's some pics of their progress, including a number of shots of Tom building his wood-fired brick oven:

Their previous brewery, Heavyweight, was one of the most highly respected in the industry.  I'm sure their new venture will be first-class all the way.

Today was the first test-baking, Tom and Peggy were kind enough to let me bring some dough balls so I could play with their new oven.  These pics are not necessarily representative of what they will be serving, they are what we were able to produce on the very first go-around.  Sorry for the blurriness, I guess my camera decided not to cooperate very well.

Another fun day of pizza making included this white clam & garlic pie.  Tasty, but it could have used a few more clams.  I got tired of opening them with my lack of shucking skills and proper tool.

Looks like this will be open this week - I am excited, and hope to get down that way soon to check it out.

Here is their pizza menu:  http://www.earthbreadbrewery.com/bread.html

Hey Guy, I am not so sure why I thought you were a production only place, but now that I know you are a brew pub, I am going to have to stop by... sooner, rather than later.

Guy, your pizzas really look like they came from New Haven.  I am sure there are going to be some very happy customers!

Scott:  Thanks, but the pizzas I made were just for fun and aren't on Earth's menu.  From their menu, here's what they offer:

"Flatbreads

Our bread is made with wholesome King Authur flour; fermented long and cool for maximum flavor. It's hand stretched and baked to order in our hand-built wood-fired oven. A large bread is generally enough for two.

Traditional - House-made tomato sauce, roasted onion, fresh mozz, garlic olive oil and fresh herbs. Finshed with a salad of seasonal greens. sm $7 / lg $10

Pesto - House-made pesto, roasted potatoes, fresh mozz and herbs. sm $8 / lg $13.5

Roasted Veg - House-made tomato sauce, roasted vegetables, garlic olive oil and herbs. sm $8.5 / lg $15

Seed - Garlic olive oil, pine nuts, roasted pumpkin + sesame seeds, herbs and Grana Padana. sm $6 / lg $10

Sausage - Nitrate-free sausage, tomato sauce, herbed mushrooms, red onion and cheese. sm $9 / lg $16

Mexican - Fire-roasted Roma tomatoes, black bean and corn salsa, cheese and cilantro. sm $8.5 / lg $15

Build your Own - Start with / without tomato sauce and cheese. sm $6 / lg $10
Add $1 for: fire-roasted tomato, potato, roasted onion, herbed mushrooms, pesto and red onion. Add $2 for: sausage, roasted veg, bean/corn salsa."

They did open last week, with Tom's inventive and delicious beers and the pizzas (flatbreads) were awesome.  I had a taste of the Mexican, the Sausage and the Seed.  Really really nice.

Full disclosure:  I have no stake in EBB, but they were nice enough to put my beer on one of their "guest taps".

As for my place, I do plan to offer pizza at some point.  Unfortunately no wood-fired oven, but I do have an old single-deck gas Blodgett I picked up for almost nothing at a restaurant auction.  Every time I see it in the warehouse it calls to me.......

P.S.  Jaysus:  Did you make it up to my Oktoberfest last Saturday?  I saw you signed up on BA.
