I am going to be making my trip with the family starting this coming Thursday. It looks like we are not going to be making it into the fatherland of Chi-town after all. But I hope to have some pictures and reports of places we do visit along the way. I convinced my wife to add a pizza pilgrimage to this trip, and here are the rules:
1. No pizza places that we could eat at (or from) at home - basically nixing the big chain pizzerias, as well as a few smaller ones like Godfathers.
2. Whenever possible, eat at mom-and-pop/independent place as opposed to a chain. We may be limited to location by our 20-month old little girl, so I needed to leave us a bit of an 'out' just in case. Although one thing in our favor is she loves pizza.
Who do you suppose she takes after?
3. At least one pizza restaurant per day of our trip.
That's basically it. I am not going to force my wife to eat pizza every day, but I will have put myself on a pizza strike for about almost 2 week by the time we start out, just so I have no problem going out for pizza six days in a row (I don't think I would anyway, but I wanted to ensure my appetite for some Midwestern-Italian pie). First stop: Des Moines, IA. Trip starts this Thursday, May 20. Get on board the pizza train - it's leavin' the station!
