I just want pass on that I bought some Boars Head Mozzarella. This cheese was great had a nice creamy flavor and held up well while being cooked. This cheese cooked without depositing any oil and was still creamy white when pie was removed from oven.I highly recommend this cheese.

I agree heartily, although I have yet to try it on pizza.  My uses have mostly been in sandwiches.  The big square slices are perfect for lasagna.  Probably the richest mozzarella I've used, very creamy and virtually no high heat breakdown. Guess I'll need to get some to supplement the Polly-O on my pie this weekend.

I agree!  I like it better than grande for its flavor.   Unfortunately its really expensive.

Hi Scott how much does Grande Cheese cost per pound.I found Boars head Mozz for $5.99 a Lb.I would shop around where you live and see if you can find a good price.I really like this cheese.

Stella at my local stop and shop is $4.99 lb on sale. I get Grande for  $2.23 a lb!! Heres the catch. I have to purchase  6 - 5lb bags for $67.00 (cash) for total of 30 lbs. I do find it a bit oily but I dab it off and the flavor is wonderful. I will try the east coast blend next truck load  Grin
2 weeks and I am only 1/2 way thru 1 bag! Will post last nights "Grande" results tonight!

From the NYC area
tryed the Boars head at my friends house,I felt it was ok....
But its not as good as Grande,,,Maybe thats why Most use Grande and not Boarshead?...JT

I made two fresh pesto pizzas last night using Boar's Head whole milk, low moisture mozz. They were excellent, but at $7.29 per pound, they should have been.  Art

Art I posted the recommendation for boars head mozz I shopped around and found a market that sell's this cheese for $5.99 a lb.This is not cheap but I find it reasonable for the high quality of this cheese.I am going to try the Grande Mozz it comes highly recommended by pizza making forum members.What cheese do you regularly use on your pizza?

90% of the time, I use Polly-O whole milk. On occasion, when it's on sale, I'll buy Sorrento.

My local liquor store here in Houston (Spec's) has Boars Head mozzarella for $4.50 /lb.  I bought a few pounds the other day and was very impressed with both how it behaved and tasted.

thats a great deal, you are lucky


Did a taste test the other day with boars head and grande and all 5 of my friends preferred the boars head with no doubt.

I did by a large chunk of Boars head from My local deli and grated myself it was VERY good cheese, and has no where near the oil of the grande WM.

the way grande melts, covers, and handles high heat is really great, but I care more about flavor and that is where boars head really shines.

Publix in FL sells most of the Boar's Head line, and this week I thought I'd give the Mozz a try, so I ordered some from the Deli section. The people at my store show you the first slice on a piece of liner plastic so you can say yes or no for thickness, then give you the slice as freebie to eat.  OMG, right out of the cooler and fresh off the block it was "like buttah", it was so rich and creamy.  This should be fantastic.  Making and eating Friday, and I'll let you know Saturday.  Pizza! I tried it on my latest pie (cut to just below an 1/8th of an inch) for the first time and I thought it was excellent.  Very buttery and flavorful.  I also loved the way it melted.

Pizza was great yesterday, and the BH was great, even the wife commented how rich the pizza was.  I don't have a wholesaler close by, so Stella is not in the picture.  If I'm in the local Italian market, I'll try to get fresh mozz, but otherwise it's Boars Head.

Compared Boars Head to Grande yesterday. Both melted well on pizza (700 degrees, 2 minute bake time), but I liked the taste of Boars Head a little more. I also liked it more before they were even melted. I never thought I'd find a cheese I liked better than Grande but the BH is really good.

By the way, does anyone else hate the way Polly O melts? It seems to always melt in a soupy mess- doesn't seem to stand up to heat very well.
