Hi folks.
I just ordered seeds for this years tomato crop. I forget all the names already, but I'll be growing 5 varieties this year. I order seeds from www.tomatogrowers.com. they advertise over 500 varieties of tomato and peppers.

I buy my tomato, pepper and eggplant seeds there as well. Transplant outside in mid-April.

When do you usually pick your first ripe tomato.  I strive for end of June here in Virginia

Have you tried to grow San Marzano tomatoes for pizza sauce?

I never put plants out until the 3rd week in May anymore. It seems late but I've lost them to frost already in the middle of May. I won't usually get a ripe tomato before mid to late July for this reason but once they start coming it's hard to keep up with them. I've grown San Marzanos before but not especially for pizza sauce. I've only been making pizza seriously since last fall. I'll be growing several "Italian" types this year for pizza sauce.
