This thing sucks.  Can't think of a better thing to say about this Black and Decker product.

It was a gift.  The device uses battery power to slide the grate up and down.  The idea is hold the cheese to the sliding grate.  It might work on a harder cheese.

Remeber those things? I don't even know if they sell them anymore but they could shred up a block of cheese in 30 seconds. I think they even had attachements for grating.

We use the spinning grater attachment with our KitchenAid mixer, then put in flat freezer bags.  This was a gift so we were kind of stuck with it.
