I guess there is no point in getting into a debate on the medical system.

The one thing that gets me is the way Rush and all the other "am radio guys" act when some guy calls in and explains how he/his wife/kid has a pre-existing condition and can't get/afford coverage. And every single time they start sputtering some nonsense and drop the call... EVERYTIME!!! Pretty much makes it clear that the ONLY thing they care about is their goddamned wallets.

We as a nation go around taking care of the rest of the world, but we can't fix the health care system here in the USA... Whats up with that?!? Not to mention our military budget... Funny you never hear the teabaggers whine about that....

Health care reform is not socialism just because a few guys that get paid to spew on a mike everyday say so.

It's an Earth food. They are called Swedish meatballs. It's a strange thing, but every sentient race has its own version of these Swedish meatballs! I suspect it's one of those great universal mysteries which will either never be explained, or which would drive you mad if you ever learned the truth.

Great post! America is a great country with the worst medical system in the free world. I would also add that socialism is not communism even though Fox News wants you to think so.

Just for Sh & Gig I'll toss this in here. I'm not arguing that health care doesn't need some changes but let's make sure we make the right ones! Also let's pay back what is owed first. 13 trillion in debt, how huge is that?? Most people don't know how big that number is. If 13 trillion dollars were changed into 13 trillion seconds, and we went back in time 13 trillion seconds it would be 300,000 years ago!! Cavemen were probably just starting to wear animal skins....that's a HUGE number. Here's a recent email I got I found interesting. As to it's accuracy....I haven't checked, but, sounds pretty close to the mark. Let's get things paid up first before we start throwing more trillion dollar figures at my pocket, our pocket.

                                         Your Social Security

Just in case some of you young whippersnappers (& older drones) didn't know this.

It's easy to check out, if you don't believe it.

Be sure and show it to your kids.

They need a little history lesson on what's what and it doesn't matter whether you are democrat or Republican.

Facts are Facts!!!

Our Social Security

Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the Social
Security (FICA) Program. He promised:

1.) That participation in the Program would be
Completely voluntary,

No longer Voluntary

2.) That the participants would only have to pay
1% of the first $1,400 of their annual
Incomes into the Program,

now in 2010 it is only on the first $106,800.00 ....and oh yeah the rate??

15.30%

You pay 7.65%

 Employer pays 7.65%

3.) That the money the participants elected to put
into the Program would be deductible from
their income for tax purposes each year,

No longer tax deductible

4.) That the money the participants put into the
independent 'Trust Fund' rather than into the
general operating fund, and therefore, would
only be used to fund the Social Security
Retirement Program, and no other
Government program, and,

Under b-Johnson democrat the money was moved to

 The General Fund and Spent

5.) That the annuity payments to the retirees
would never be taxed as income.

Under Clinton & Gore commie/democrats/nut job

Up to 85% of your Social Security can be Taxed

Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are
now receiving a Social Security check every month --
and then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of
the money we paid to the Federal government to 'put
away' -- you may be interested in the following:

------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- ----

Q: Which Political Party took Social Security from the
independent 'Trust Fund' and put it into the
general fund so that Congress could spend it?

A: It was Lyndon b-Johnson and the democrat-ically
controlled House and Senate.

------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --

Q: Which Political Party eliminated the income tax
deduction for Social Security (FICA) withholding?

A: The democratic Party.

------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- -----

Q: Which Political Party started taxing Social
Security annuities?

A: The democratic Party, with algore/nut case casting the
'tie-breaking' deciding vote as President of the
Senate, while he was Vice President of the  US

------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- -

Q: Which Political Party decided to start
giving annuity payments to immigrants?
AND MY FAVORITE commie lick-spittle:

A: That's right!

Jimmy Carter and the democratic Party.
immigrants moved into this country, and at age 65,
began to receive Social Security payments! The
democratic Party gave these payments to them,
even though they never paid a dime into it!

------------ -- ------------ --------- ----- ------------ --------- ---------

Then, after violating the original contract (FICA), the democrats turn around

and tell you that the Republicans want to take your Social Security away!

And the worst part about it is uninformed citizens believe it!

If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of
awareness will be planted and maybe changes will
evolve. Maybe not, some Democrats are awfully
sure of what isn't so.

But it's worth a try. How many people can YOU send this to?

Actions speak louder than bumper stickers.

AND CONGRESS GIVES THEMSELVES 100% RETIREMENT FOR ONLY SERVING ONE TERM!!!

NOT "SOCIAL SECURITY"

A government big enough to give you everything you want,

is strong enough to take everything you have.
-Thomas Jefferson

It's difficult to separate politics from issues like salt, sugar and fat in food products, but as a Moderator I would like to see the discussion return to the salt issue that gave rise to this thread. Otherwise, people can become defensive and feel compelled to respond to statements with which they disagree. Those discussions are better handled through PMs. I think pretty much everyone has agreed that the assemblyman in question is off base. And we won't be able to resolve to everyone's satisfaction the medical aspects and implications of salt used in foodstuffs. The matter of salt usage will remain an issue for some of our members, expecially those who are in the pizza business, but it is likely to be some time before that issue is resolved, if ever.

You're right Peter, kind of digressed into an endless 'agree to disagree' thing there. Great job as usual :D

Socialism is like three-card monte. No matter how much time goes by and how many people get cheated, there will always be a new generation of suckers who think they can make it work.

Control a man's wealth, and you control the man. Socialism is tyranny.

I don't really want to get into it again, but nobody controls our wealth here. I do with my money what I like and I am free to make as much of it as I can. We are just as free as Americans! I am also free to use as much salt as I want!!!!!!!! ;)
