Block cheese from Walmart.

I bought a block of Great-Value mozzarella cheese from Wal-Mart and now I wonder what the difference is between a block (looks like the monolith in the movie 2001,2010 Space Odyssey except white) of cheese or the soft package Great-Value mozzarella cheese packaged like poly-O comes packaged.
Anybody know?
