Got some quarry tiles, now I have a question
« on: June 09, 2010, 06:04:18 PM »
So I got some quarry tiles, they are 6x6 and are 1/2 inch thick.  My question is, would it be a good idea to "glue" two of them together with some refractory (fireproof) mortar to increase the thickness to 1 inch?  Wouldn't it hold the heat in better?  Any thoughts are appreciated.

I think I would just stack them two deep. I don't think mortaring them together is going to improve anything. In fact in a home oven I doubt stacking them is going to do much for you. The tiles can only get so hot and baking a pizza or two is not going to affect the tiles all that much in terms of heat loss.

Thanks for the thoughts, I made some dough yesterday that's bound for the tiles tomororw, right now I've got 2 stacked and a layer above too, we'll see how it goes.  I have a case of 40, so I may experiment with some mortar for the heck of it.
