Thanks Norma. I've still got a ways to go on it, including the tricky vent/chimney area. I'll probably just get it functional this year and worry about making it pretty next year.
I expect you to be amongst the very first people to sample the fruits of my labor!

Best of luck with the tricky vent/chimney area. I am really anxious to try your pies baked in the WFO.

I will have to get some of my starters going and also make some dough for you to try out in your WFO. I appreciate you said I will be amongst the first people to sample your pies from the WFO you built. Part of my pizza making journey will be complete then, because I never tasted a pie made in a WFO.

Thanks. Personally, I'm not crazy about the contrast between the arch and the side walls. The walls needed to have the ends cut to square them up and the color doesn't match the uncut bricks in the arch. I'm thinking I'll probably get some nice brick-face ends and stick them on when I finish it up.

Nice transition and vent work. I can already tell it is going to draw well.
As far as the contrast between the bricks, after a couple of roaring fires most of that will blacken initially and will stay that way for the most part, and after several more firings they will blend in well and develop character.

EDIT: oops.....I just realized you were talking about the face of the outer arch not matching... I thought inner, originally.

Surely you only had to cut one end, why didn't you just put the non-cut end out? It looks great regardless, and I really like the way you toothed in the vent bricks. It makes it very strong and smoke-tight.

The side walls come off the dome at an angle, whereas the arch is parallel to the front of the oven, and I thought it would be better if the ends of the wall bricks lined up with the arch.
Good idea about running the grinder over the arch bricks. I just may do that. Thanks.

Certainly the easiest fix. I'll probably do that first and see how it looks. I may still go with some nicer looking stick-ons.

Your oven is looking fabulous. Well done ! The workmanship is very professional and well thought out.

What are your plans for insulation ? I found with my first WFO that insulation is never enough.

I have 2 rolls (100 sq. ft.)of the ceramic fiber blanket that Forno Bravo sells. I'm thinking that should get me at least 3 layers. Then I'm planning a 3 inch layer of "vermicrete", plus a layer of waterproof stucco.
Next year, I intend to pretty it up with stone face on the bottom, a stucco finished enclosure on top, and filling the top with perlite. I figure that oughta do it!

No, that's Yuengling black & tan. It's not the best but it's not exactly "swill" either.

"Functionally complete", by golly. I put the final coat of vermicrete on yesterday. I'll let it sit a week and then start the curing process. I should be cooking in two weeks!
