An idea for this website
« on: March 28, 2005, 02:27:52 PM »
How about a semi-interactive page, where members can post the name/location/details of their favorite hometown pizza joint ?  Have a map of the U.S.   Click on a state.  A separate window opens with an A-Z listing by Town/City.  Each entry would include:  State, Town, Restaurant, Address, Phone, Hours, and a review by the submitter.  Put some ground rules down, too:  no pizza hut or other chains,  limit restaurant reviews to 3 per member.  Must be a member for 6 months before you can post, so a restaurant owner won't go and put his place here.  Keep it objective.  Whaddy'a think webmasters?   It would help out those who travel and want a guranteed good slice.  Here's my entry:

• State:  VA
• City / Town:  Leesburg
•
• Restaurant:  Giovanni's Italian Restaurant
•
• Type:  sit-down casual, or carry-out
•
• Pizza type:  New York
•
• Address:  520 E. Market St. Leesburg, VA
•
• Phone:  703-777-8440
•
• Hours:  M-Th 11-10,  F-Sa  11-11, closed Sun
•

Review: Giovanni's is typically-located in a strip mall.  Don't let that dissuade you.  They have an excellent NY pizza.  The dough is made fresh there and you'll see it flying up in the air frequently.  My only complaint is they used canned mushrooms.  Aside from that, their pizza is excellent.  Prices are typical, and I will post them later.  They also serve a Siclian-crust pizza, but I have yet to try it.  Other foods include steak subs, pasta dishes, salads, etc.   Stay away during the noon rush hour, or you'll wait for a seat.  Same for dinner.  Go before 5 or after 8pm.
Other restaurants by this reviewer:  La Villa Roma
(make this a clickable link)

I've been going to Giovanni's for over 10 years.  The owner is related to (and the pizza is made the same as) Tony's pizza in fairfax, Ciro's in Centerville...other offshoots include Mama Lucia in Fairfax and others.   It's what I call typical NY Street Pizza - grande cheese, etc.   They are pretty good for this.  No elite pizza in the area though.

Good idea. I'll need some time to write the code for it.

Arthur -  I had no idea those restaurants were connected.  I grew up in Fairfax - where is Tony's?  What is your take on La Villa Roma's pizza?  I can't decide who I like better.  La Villa Roma seems to have a thicker crust, at least on the edge.  And they have the best chicken wings in town!

I've never been to La Villa Roma - where is it?

Arthur -

La Villa Roma
305 E. Market St. Leesburg
Tollhouse Shopping Center

It's in the strip mall on the left about 1/8 mile past McDonalds.

I'm eating a slice from them as I type!

This is a great idea...I was looking at Ed Levines book on Pizza called "A Slice of Heaven"...he has traveled the USA and eatting pie all along the way. He tells you stories about the places and rates them for flavor etc... He checked out my fav. place...He even had pics of the orig. owners etc as well. He really gets into the New York pizza parlors....all the great ones..Patsy's, Lombardos, Totonnos..etc...its all in there great reading...
Here's my fav. place that was menioned in the book...
Trenton - N.J.
Chambersburg
Hudson St..
DeLorenzo's Tomato Pies...
