Summer Garden Deep Dish
« on: August 12, 2010, 08:02:16 PM »
My purple bell peppers were a success & I picked a ripe one and also received a nice bag of red bell peppers and tomatoes from my sister's garden.  I sliced them up and sprinkled them over the tomato sauce, a hefty amount of mozzarella and the dough with a lil' melted butter.  Finally, I grated quite a bit of pecorino romano on top of everything & baked it up.  Turned out wonderfully!

Compared to 99% of the home pizza makers (Not on this forum) in the world, I'd say you can move on to making other styles as your pies are good to go. I'd buy one, get on the Wabash Canon Ball, bring me a pizza and I'll take you to Lou's then you can set about recreating it.

Lou Dog, your pie looks good, fresh veg can not be beaten.  What kinda 'sauce' are you using?

Thanks, y'all!  I've been using my variation of BTB's Malnati style crust with the semolina & all purpose flour combo--it's great.  For the sauce, I drained crushed tomatoes w/basil and added minced garlic, oregano, crushed red pepper and salt/pepper.  I usually also add chopped whole tomatoes ala Malnatis, but I didn't have any on hand & felt the sliced tomatoes on top would do the trick...they did & added that fresh sweetness like only garden tomatoes can.  I might do another one in a couple weeks with some kick--minced banana pepper  >:D

I don't even like deep-dish, and I'd be all over that pie. Really looks good!

I love pigs. They convert vegetables into bacon.

Lou Dog,

Your deep dish with Summer veggies sound great!  :)  I also like fresh veggies in any kind of pies.
