Cheese Shredding Machines?

Is there a good home machine I can buy to shred my small blocks of Mozz cheese I buy from the local stores?

I do it by hand,with a hand held grater right now,but was wondering if there was a product that can shred them longer and neater,and be able to do it all.

I dont want a machine that can shred it to the same size I can do handmade,looking for something better.

chickenparm- if you have a KA mixer, they make a shredder attachment which does a great job on cheese or veggies. I prefer to slice my mozzarella, but that's just a personal preference. and it's quicker and easier.

I 2nd slicing. I grated for awhile and it's messy.  I hand slice and then sprinkle a lil Parmesan as an anti-caking and flavor agent.

There are many kinds of hand standing cheese graters, that seem to work okay.  These are some links to what they look like, if you don’t want to spend a lot of money for a grater.  The free standing cheese graters do work and can be found many places.

A salad shooter is about $40, but has many uses besides grating.

Salad shooter does do a good job, just be sure to keep the company address handy, because you will eventually need to buy a replacement grating cone, the stress of repeated cheese grating takes its toll.

Sorry I have no experience with a salad shooter.  I don't eat too many salads.    Can these salad shooters slice cheese as well or just grate?

I third slicing.

But you know, if you really dig shredding the cheese, a good food processor works very well.  I've no experience with the kitchen aid attatchment, but I'm sure it works well too.  I would get whichever one takes up the least amount of room, be it a food processor that you can use to do other things in (such as make fresh sauces) or as an attatchment to a mixer.

I have the electrolux dlx 2000 and am comtemplating buying the cheese shredder, but I do really well with the hand slicing and would rather get the blender attatchment first.

It does have a slicer attachment, but the slices would be very small, might handle pepperoni.

Thanks to all for the replies.I do like the slice application too...was just curious if there was a easy shredder as well.I have not decided what I will use for LONG TERM yet.Will experiment and go from there,only way to learn.

When I shred my cheese, I have a Cuisinart Food Processor and the all the blade attachments. The grater works REALLY well on the blocks of cheese. (I usually Freeze it for a few hours so it shreds nicely.) The slicer attachments also do a wonderful job on slicing the pepperoni!

I second the food processor. I have an old Cuisinart that I've had for over 10 years and it does a great job on the blocks of white cheddar that I use. One thing I've learned though is to freeze the cheese before shredding. Works much better since high speed shredding can heat up the cheese & gum up the works. Takes me less than 5 mins to do a 2Lb block.
