Frustrating...

I just wrote a lengthy, info-filled reply and was "timed-out". I logged back in and was unable to recover the entire post. All I saw was a blank, white box. 

I thought, since this problem has been addressed by several members before, it had been fixed.

It has happened numerous times. Someone from the Mods, or Steve, should fix that. Or a better alternative would be to transfer the entire forum over to a host, like vBulletin for example, who can handle not only pictures of any size but also videos.

I understand there are expenses and costs associated with this, but if every member would donate $5 it should be possible. I will donate the first five if there will be an option in the "Supporting Members" section.

I used it before for my forum and it was free but extremely functional. It might has a small price tag to it now, though.

Lazarus: Form Recovery for Firefox

Never lose anything you type into a web form again! Lazarus securely auto-saves all forms as you type, so after a crash, server timeout, or whatever, you can go back to the form, right click, "recover form", and breathe a sigh of relief.

nono, i meant that i have my own forum, and i don't handicap its abilities to the members.  they can pretty much do whatever the coding allows.  i don't limit the attachments or disable image ([img]) tags or sigs/avatars.

I had the same problems, different times.  Now if I want to post something that is more than a few lines, I just use my processor or if I am on my old computer, Word Perfect.  That way I don’t lose what I had spent time writing. 

I really don’t understand how forums are created, but I also would be willing to donate something if it can help other members post pictures or even what they wrote without problems.

I have also lost numerous posts since my posts do tend to be lengthy.  This also happens if I have forgotten to resize my pics or if my connection is slow.

I do the same thing Norma does and use WP for lengthy posts. I also would be happy to donate $ towards the effort. 

It would be nice to stack text and pics on top of one another without having to separate the posts as well.

This is not something the moderators can address - only Steve can. I have made him aware of this thread. I know he has been planning to upgrade the code base.

This happened to me couple times but its only because I forgot to resize the pictures. The forum never crashed and w.e when I was writing something.

I am in the process of upgrading the forum to the latest version... it's difficult because I've implemented numerous modifications that make the upgrade process a manual one as opposed to an automatic one. I had planned to do this over the summer but I got busy. I'll try to get the upgrade done soon. If that doesn't solve the problem then switching forum software is an option. Sorry for all the trouble.

Thanks for the reply and the update. I hope you didn't take my venting post personal. It wasn't directed towards the community but more towards technology. I'm still happy to help or donate if that makes things easier for us around here.

Glad to hear that there's an upgrade coming. With a video option, perhaps??

When I used the vBulletin platform is was smooth sailing. They have some good stuff packed into it.

As a former owner of a few forums in the past, I can completely understand this.

People do have the option, if needed, of typing up a response in a word processor program or notepad before posting it. A pain in the butt sometimes, yes, but it's a sure way of preventing post loss.

Do you have an update by any chance on the updating progress? Some flaws, like losing an entire post because a photo file is too big should be remedied.
