Freezing 6 in 1 sauce?
« on: December 07, 2010, 08:52:23 PM »
Hi everyone!
I finally ordered a can of 6 in 1 sauce!   (And a can of Bonta) - stuff I just have never found locally  - and I have looked high and low.   The shipping was 5 times the price of the sauce itself from Pennmac, but it's nearly Christmas, so good enough excuse :-)

The shipment arrived today, and I had no idea how BIG the can was!  My question is, can the sauce be frozen?  For the price of the shipping, I'm hoping the can will last me a while, but I've never bought one in this size before, so I'm not sure if freezing is an option?

All the best,
 - Kev

Kev,

You might check out this thread: http://www.pizzamaking.com/forum/index.php/topic,11161.msg100668.html#msg100668.

I am also curious how the shipping charges were so high in your case. I was recently checking shipping charges for #10 cans from PennMac and I did not get a multiple of five times the cost of the cans, at least to Texas.

I agree, check out the link Peter posted for ya.

I see no problems freezing the 6 in 1 stuff.

Btw,I may be able to help you with some future orderings...I may be able to get you some cans at store cost plus shipping.I would not want anything in return.I cannot get alot of stuff in my area, but I can get the 6 in1 and possibly a few Bonta or allegro sauce cans.

You can send me a PM of your info in the future, should you ever want to see if I can help save you some money on shipping and etc.My local store is about 30 minutes away and they carry some of these cans.
I make trips out that way every now and then.

Just letting ya know.

Thanks for the replies!
The shipping via FedEx International Ground from Pennmac to outside of Toronto was VERY expensive; I was actually very surprised that they shipped at all!    I figured the canned sauce should be fine for shipping; wonder if international delivery of cheese and pepperoni is possible?

It's easily frozen. It's best to refrigerate it first (to help prevent ice crystal formation), then top off your container and freeze.

Next time you buy, go directly to escalon.com. They will ship you 6 28oz. cans of 6 in 1's for $16.50, that covers everything.

Buying directly from Escalon was one of the options I looked at, but their website doesn't offer shipping to Canada :-(

Kev,
Where are you located?  I'm in Mississauga & ordered from Escalon last year & the shipping was only $1.50.

Shipping is only a $1.50 directly from Escalon.

I got my order of six cans this morning and ordered on Saturday.

$16.50 total.

How did you order?  On their website or by telephone?  The website, escalon.net, doesn't offer non-US shipping, unless I missed it?

I ordered online. Maybe you have to call in for international orders and shipping.

Matt can probably give you better info on that since he's in Canada, too.

I did it online.  Enter your complete address including city, province,& country in the address field.  Fill in your city & leave the state as Alabama which is the default.
Call them afterwards to confirm.
