also, from the pictures it seems that you did not do what varasano does in terms of putting the pizza stone on the top rack. if this is the case, what's your opinion on the subject?

I actually need to edit that. My rack has been in the center for a long time (for all the pictures you've probably seen)  I'll fix that on my site.  More important is the differential. This is really oven-specific. Note my tricks with foil.

  Back to the temperature thing, did you cook it at 550 and if so for how long????

yep 550.. for about 8 minutes.

at least the oven says 550. i think it probably goes higher than that for reasons uknown to this particular oven.
