Today's
News and Observer carried an Associated Press article entitled, "Anchovies, cheese bake on the way".
Super Fast Pizza is the brainchild of Scott Matthew who started a mobile pizza production and delivery business based in Fond Du Lac, WI. The company has two Mercedes-Benz (Chrysler) Sprinters, high-roofed vehicles used in Europe as ambulances, which have been outfitted with coolers, small pizza ovens, and wireless internet connection at a cost of $97,000 per vehicle.
Matthew said of his idea, "If you bake the pizzas in vans on the way to you, it would be so neat. You could probably get it there in twenty minutes."
The article says that "the results are a cross between a supermarket-bought pizza, a delivery from a chain like Domino's and eating at a pizzaria where the pie comes straight from the oven. They're not for fussy pizza connoisseurs, but will satisfy a quick craving."
The driver/ cook/ delivery people seem to have their hands full. "Between driving with the window down, (pulling over to put) pizzas in the ovens, and tapping on the computer screen, there isn't a second to spare."
