$600 Cookbook? Not for me.
We have found ourselves whittling down our stash of cookbook over the past year or so. There are still to many keepers, but many of the specialty cookbooks are out the door to the library book sales.
I like to just read them also. Years ago, on a Sunday afternoon, I was reading James Beard's "American Cookery" and hit the section on pan fried oysters. They sounded so good I spent the afternoon running down some decent oysters for supper. No simple feat in Denver on a Sunday at the time!
Fiction has turned me on to some foods too. I had to run out and buy some Calvados for the first time while reading an Inspector Maigret novel. The author described the smell of calvados/apples on a telephone mouth piece in a bar and it sounded so good I had to try it. That's cost me some over the years....
