And 14 minutes before the estimated 50 minute delivery time was up, they called to say Green Olives were only available for Dine-In only.

I don't get that. Why would they do that? First, why would they only sell green olives on dine-in pizzas? Second, why would they call you 36 minutes after you ordered to tell you what they could have told you when you ordered? Also, are they stupid?

I have never heard of such a thing. Is there some adverse reaction people can get with olives so they need to monitor their customers in case someone croaks?

Alright Jet_Deck, I ordered a Mazzio's Works last night for delivery and had it with the Ken's Sauce.  It's been years since I had a Ken's.  Now I remember the sauce, and next time, I'll order just a cheese so spices from meat and veggies don't interfere in taste of the sauce.

After looking on line, I did manage to find this little bit of info regrading sauce.  "And the sauce recipe includes fresh tomato tidbits and a blend of spices, giving it a bold flavor." From this link, http://www.mazzios.com/about_us/news/20110429-KensPizzaFlashback.pdf

From the PM you sent me about the sauce and "the Zing", my initial thought is lemon juice not vinegar, but I do taste it.  Spices I believe are basil, oregano and maybe ground anise seed, but never could get palette cleaned off good enough after eating the Italian Sausage.  We'll get there.

Thanks tons Amore, the zing is not heat, but something else.  I really appreciate your perception of what was in the sauce.  It is a great mystery to me.

I'm still trying to track this down, but I think that there is still a "Ken's" out in Sapaulpa.  Dumpster diving here we go

There is one somewhere in Kansas, and another in Missouri that are still privately held.  I have talked to one of them but no information was recieved on my part.

The Mazzio's in Tulsa still serve Ken's. I'm not so sure the crust is the same as in the old days. It's not real crispy, and It seems more like frozen than fresh made. It was good tasting pizza however.

Here is a thought on the sauce.

A splash of juice from pickled jalapeno's ...

Has that wang of vinegar and a lil heat from the jalapeno.  And it's something that was being poured down the drain when prepping jalapeno's as a topping ingredient.

For what it's worth Jet_Deck, I really like the consistency of the sauce... something I want to duplicate as well.
