I've been missing the west and backpacking etc. I've been fantasizing about "backpacker" pizza, and what I'd bring, if I'd dehydrate tomato sauce and what kinds of ingredients I'd find while there, like wild mushrooms and onions etc. Also about ovens I could make to bake them in.

In any case I'd like to see a pizza camping challenge at some point this summer.

Seles, Years ago I built an easy pie pan dutch oven from a book a friend loaned me after I mentioned I would like to do some baking while camping. Maybe twenty five years ago? Wow, time flies. Anyways I found this scout site which shows basically the same idea. I recall I riveted some "ears" to align the two lower pans rather than clips. I did some skillet pizza back then but this worked better, and was lighter weight than a dutch oven.

This looks great, Don. Thanks! I'll have to look into this further tomorrow.

Time does fly, last time I backpacked was over twelve years ago and I've only been car camping (twice) since then.  All in good time I'll be on the trail making pies with water from thawing glaciers, wild onions, and over an open fire.

Mmmmmmmm…

Lots of good ideas.  Please do remember there are only 12 challenges a year so if I don't use one of your suggestions right away doesn't mean I don't plan to use it later.

Also, when interest dies down I tend to skip a month, so different people need to keep making pizzas.
I'm on too many of these boards
