Stainless on stone?
« on: May 26, 2011, 11:58:35 PM »
Hi everybody,

I may have just made a noob mistake.  My stone was pretty dirty with some fairly sizable burned on sauce/cheese.  I used a stainless steel spatula thing to scrape it off pretty gently.  It went quickly and I didn't have to use much elbow grease at all.  But then I noticed the ever so slight shine of what looks like stainless steel on the stone.  Definitely not a solid layer, looks like a little bit of the spatula stayed on the stone.

Have I ruined my stone?  What should I do?

I've used a spatula to lightly scrap a glob off more than once.  Never worried about it. If it is bothering you, maybe you could use some fine sandpaper on the spot.  I'm pretty sure you haven't ruined you stone!  We cook in SS all the time....

I was just talking with my chief idea person and problem solver, and she said to use pumice on it in case I'm really worried.

I use an old chef chopping style on my pizza stone to get off burnt stuff, and have for years, never noticed any metal shavings on the stone.
