I found the last piece of the puzzle for the bowl drive. A zero cost to me right angle drive. The donor Dewalt angle grinder will work perfectly. The ratio 4:1 is not perfect, but at this price I won't complain.

The bowl drive is done. Just need to extend the shaft where that sprocket is sitting. A chain will run up to one of the shafts that turn the arms.

i get the feeling that using an a/c motor to drive the bowl instead of a variable ac/dc motor (that of a treadmill) is going to give you speeds far greater than what you could ever use

I don't think he's using the actual Dewalt motor, just the drive train thru the angle grinder, which of course, includes the main shaft thru the motor.

the reduced speed on those right angle drivers is pretty high, looking at 2100rpm right off the head(or so) iirc

Thank you both Ev and c0ml3x for following this build. Yes, for every revolution of the motor on the grinder, the final drive is 1/4. I am just using the ability of the angle ginder to turn vertical rotation into horizontal rotation. I Think.

The simple solution as to why is this: On the perfect diving arm mixer, every portion of the side of the bowl is wiped by the kneading arm. Said differently, if the distance around the bowl is 21", and the kneading foot is 3", then the bowl must travel 1/7th rotation for every "dive" of the arms.

I hope this makes things more clear. More to follow.

wouldn't using a garage door opener make a better low speed drive?

A garage door motor does run for long periods at high torque. Seems like it would lack cooling to me. I personally thought the ice cream maker motor was genius, and am already eying my broken angle grinder in the garage...another great idea. A gear reduction like that costs a fortune to buy.

also, i have a black and decker drill motor that is 120vac/dc, 350 rpm shaft speed, 1/2" smooth shaft about 7/8" long. forward, reverse, and off. i think you would be able to use it with a chain or gear reduction, plus with forward/reverse it would be a big plus. it seems you already have a motor, but if you plan on doing something else, it's up for grabs.

Update! Video from this evening. It is not done, but closer than it was a week ago. I believe it is important in this case to name the mixer. Holo from member Holorim and fex from Artofex (mixer). So here is the Holofex mixer.

1) The bowl still needs a bowl centering thing on the rotating table.
2) The arms clank when they meet, I don't think the flour will care.
