toaster oven pizza

Today I made two small 8" pizzas in my Cuisinart toaster oven, tile on lowest rack position, convection bake set at 500 degrees. The dough used was some I had taken from the freezer yesterday, then set out to come up to room temp today, although it was still rather cool. It stretched nicely, but was a little doughy. The first pizza did not show any char on the bottom but the second one did. The pizzas were quite edible, just didn't have the crust standards that I am aiming for. They were topped with my usual sauce and shredded Sargento mozzarella. I've decided I like the shredded mozz, I've been putting it on in cubes. I could even taste some flavor in the cheese with this awful cold I have.

I had to turn the pizza around as it seemed to be cooking faster on the right side where the fan is. It was nice not to have to heat up the oven - supposed to get up to the mid 80's here today.

pyegal, I have done toaster oven pizza before but the best pizza made was the thick crust pan pizzas in my oven. I used thick dark metal square pans that are about 7 X 7 inches. I oil the pan a little and spread the dough made for a 12 inch pie in the bottom then let it rise for a a while before topping and baking... they turn out great dark crusted bottoms and the tops cooks  perfectly without drying out or over cooking the cheese.. try it you'll like it!

I'll tell you, I love the toaster oven for reheating cold pizza, and it's not an energy conservation thing either. I used to LOVE cold pizza, but something unexplainable happened about 10 years ago where I just lost my taste for it completely. So now, the toaster oven is my saving grace. It just cooks leftover pizza better than a traditional oven.

QFT.  IMHO, there is NO comparison between a slice reheated in a toaster oven and one warmed in a microwave.  Toaster oven is the ONLY way to go when it comes to heating a slice.  I set the oven for "medium" toast and the slice comes out nice and crispy and the cheese is perfectly bubbly.

Since joining this forum, I've begun using words like "autolyze" and have become anal about baker's percents.  My dough is forever changed.

I came across this post above and just like to comment. Has anyone here ever tried
using a combination of microwave and toaster oven for re-heating FROZEN pizza?

1.) Start up the toaster oven leaving it on TOAST.

2.) As the toaster oven is heating up, take a single small slice of FROZEN pizza
and  microwave it on HIGH for about 35 seconds to thaw it out and get the
cheese bubbling a bit on the edges.

3.) Transfer the slice of pizza from the microwave to the HOT toaster oven
set on TOAST and cook just until you see the cheese just beginning to brown.

For me, this results in a slice that is almost the same texture as fresh baked and it
takes less than 5 minutes. However, depending upon the thickness of *your* pizza
crust and how well you originally cooked the crust, your results will likely be different.
I have found that it's best to over cook the crust just a bit if you plan to freeze
and reheat the pizza, otherwise the reheated pizza will be too soggy or limp.

How long does is take you to cook french fries or tater tots in the toaster oven?

I use the same basic microwave & toaster oven combo for cooking store bought FROZEN
french fries. I'll place 1 seving of fries on a 9 inch paper plate and spray them liberally
with water from a spray bottle. I nuke the wet fries for 2 minutes which thaws the fries
and cooks them to the point of being tender. Make sure that the fries don't touch
each other when microwaving them, otherwise they stick together.

Next, I place the hot soft limp fries on a grill and place them into the already HOT
toaster oven set on TOAST and cook them until they begin to brown. The whole
process takes less than 5 minutes.

One variation...

After you initially cook the fries in the microwave, sprinkle on some olive oil,
and salt & garlic powder and mix them well to evenly coat the fries. Then
place them in the Toaster oven.

This have nothing to do with a toaster oven - but appears to be a quick method of reheating leftover pizza from the frig.

I microwave up to 3 pieces of pizza from the refrigerator for 20 second.

Then I put them into a large Teflon coated frying pan we have. About 3 or 4 minutes in the frying pan on high, covered, and the slices taste as good as if they were fresh.

The frying pan crisps the slice bottoms well, relieving any soggy crust bottoms

If you mean baking a fresh pizza on a pizza stone in the toaster oven, yes, it is possible to do so, as I noted here: http://www.pizzamaking.com/forum/index.php/topic,576.msg6394.html#msg6394 (see Replies 75-79). In my case, the toaster oven came with a pizza stone. However, for one of the pizzas, I used a pizza screen in the toaster oven.
