Can one stack tiles for a pizza stone?

I am wondering if one can stack tiles since I am only finding 3/8" tiles and if stacking them to make them between 1/2" to 1".  I don't know if they will crack or do something else.  Any thoughts?  Or if anyone knows where I may go to have my old pizza stone (too big for my new home's oven) cut to size.  I live in southern Westchester County in NY state.  Surprisingly lots of tile stores are not too helpful and I am not finding quarry tiles @ Home Depot or elsewhere.

STACKING - I've successfully stacked quarry tiles on my gas grill. I've never cracked any, but even if they did crack the costs to replace them are so very low that it wouldn't concern me. I always have extras on hand.

CUTTING - Try going to a Tool Rental store and ask them if they'd cut it for you for a reasonable fee. Or.. look in your phone book for a local landscaper or stone mason. Pick one with the smaller ads. A small local guy is likely to be more accommodating.
