Mike, I wouldn't do that.  You know why?  Cuz it's not on the menu.  If you're gonna have salad on the menu, then it's rediculous to not let a paying customer order a salad.  Like you said, take the salad off the menu or have in bold print, "Salads only available with order of a pizza".  Or hang up a big sign that says "Everyone must order a pizza".  At least this way people know what they are in for. But to have someone wait an hour to get in only to be told they have to eat pizza or leave is poor customer service.

Now it's his shop so he can do whatever he wants.  Bad decisions lose money for the business while good ones are profitable.  IMO, it's a terrible way to go about doing business.

I also happen to agree that you should order pizza if you go to a pizzeria, but there are other methods of going about getting that point across, rather than have people wait in line and then making a big production out of it.  Let's face it, it's impossible to cater to every whim of every customer and some folks won't be happy no matter what.   But to not have a sign or make it clear ahead of time after an hour wait is inexcusable.

Also true.

Something Tom wrote had me laughing as well.I have seen a lot of places in NY run by mean folks just like he described. These people are so rude and don't give a crap what you think. They have enough customers everyday they can get away with it.That said, what can you do if you really like the food they sell?
 :-D

Being in NY,we just learned to ignore the 'tude and get what we want out of it.

That BS! I'd let them eat just a salad if they waited an hour but these ladies got two pizzas and the rest! If you wan't to be a complete dick, put up a sign.

This guy will be loving the attention as well.  Personally I hope it doesn't work in his favor.

Well I think its more about the seating capacity it sounds like. They only have 16 tables and always have people waiting, if you're not there to eat pizza then there are likely lots of restaurants around that serve salad.

If the pizza is really good, people might be willing to buy by his rules.

My brother used to ban customers from his oil change business. If he thought a customer was rude to an employee or complained too much about prices, etc. He would tell them to not come back. He used to tell me about customers coming back a few months later and apologizing. I thought he was exaggerating. But then I worked for him as a manager for about a year and saw this first hand. He would ban a customer and they would come back asking to be a customer again. I laughed when a person he banned before I was working there, came in and asked if he could be unbanned. He actually said he was going to be a good customer if he could come back. :-D

My brother charged the most money for an oil change but had excellent service and no blown engines. He used to say "the customer isn't always right" and stuck by his employees.
