Ruggles pizza, Boston
« on: January 25, 2011, 11:55:55 PM »
Hey everybody, was hoping someone could help. There was a pizza place in boston that closed a couple years ago called Ruggles, that served my girlfriends dad's favorite pizza. He still talks about it all the time. I have never eaten the pizza so I have nothing to go by, was hoping for some info so I may be able to replicate it for him. Thanks, Erich

I did some searching and not a lot came up. Few comments said they were good. Other than that there is nothing. I'm guessing it closed in the 80's because thats what all the comments said and the posts were in mid 2006. Maybe ScottR would know since he was around at that time.

I have a vague memory that they were "English" style and made with cheddar cheese.

The pizza was known as English style, the crust was meant to be thin for knife and fork eating( a quote from the menu).  The mixture of cheese was extra sharp New York Cheddar finely grated with oregano mixed in.  They used to make individual pizzas know as Baby Princes and sold a sweet wine called Babycham (hope I spelled that right).  They had a restaurant in my town for a while, my best friend and I had many lunches there.  They are gone, not sure if the restaurant exists anywhere anymore.  Hope this helps, a note when adding oregano to the cheese take care not to add too much, I believe it was a tablespoon of oregano to a cup of cheese.  Mix them together first and then add to the pizza, otherwise it is a standard pizza.
