Well, I actually did make it by last week but left town the next morning and haven't had a chance to post.
Actually, my girlfriend swung by and picked up a couple. And then we reheated them several hours later. So not ideal eating conditions. That said, they were great. While this was my first Detroit-style pie, apart from those I've attempted in my own kitchen (after trying to source a steel blue pan), I've had a ton of Sicilian / Grandma-style pies, and these compare very well to the best versions (Best Pizza, Adrienne's). Well-proportioned (important when it comes to pan dough), well cooked, and well seasoned. It's obvious that these guys are paying attention and doing things right, and to me that's worth much more than sticking to some formula for the sake of authenticity.
I hope to swing by in person sometime soon.
For the record, I haven't watched the pizza episode yet, but I'm a big fan of Hilah's videos. She's fun, and I'm generally a fan of anything that encourages folks to cook.
Anyway, a welcome addition to Austin and a great addition to the east side.
