It's well deserved. Some of the best pies I've had!

I agree it is well deserved.  I had the pleasure of meeting and talking with the Hunt brothers at Craig's Pizza Summit.

Now The Hunt brothers are going for Bar Pies.  They had a pop-up pizza night at Bufalena last night and were nice enough to invite my wife and I.  It was, as expected, great pizza, and a nice crowd.  Bufalina prepared the salad and a meat/cheese plate and the Hunt brothers cooked the pizzas in the WFO (at 700ish degrees) on pans.  Sorry for the crappy pics, but they are all I have.  This will be one of the styles they will make at their brick and mortar location.

Nice cheesey edges and an excellent crust, no bones on those plates.  One is Vermont smoked pepperoni, the other is mild gouda, black forest ham, maple syrup (no red sauce) (from Paulie G, the Monte Christo).  The wife and I have an aversion to maple, so I asked that they just wave the bottle over the pie, and they got it just right, just a hint of the maple.  This was a great pie last night AND this morning when I finished it for breakfast.

I wonder if they are using their Detroit dough but handling it in a different manner? Looks great!

Very nice, TScarborough! I went to the first bar pie pop-up at Bufalina last month. Very impressed with the quality of the pizza. Different than I expected (I thought it would be a more cracker-like crust, based only on photos), but I really liked it a lot. I think they will do just fine with these. They keep bringing the missing styles to Austin! My photo attached.

I missed both pop ups at Bufalina (another great place for pies in Austin)! I was hoping to make it, but we had stuff going on for both of them. The bar pies look fantastic and I can't wait til they open the brick-n-mortar place in South Austin.

oh... and by the way, Hi, y'all! :)

Thanks Tom, Jeff A, and Ron for posting about the bar pie pop-ups at Bufalina by the Hunt brothers.  The pies looks delicious!  Wish I live closer to where you all live.

Brick and mortar soft opening tonight.  I had a very good time, drank some excellent beers and had one of my top 5 of all time pizzas, probably my Wife's favorite, the Stooge.  I took a few pictures, but left my camera on the bar.  I ordered a MC5 to go (Cinque formaggio).  I took pics of that with my phone when I got home, attached.  I will post the others if (when) I get my camera back.

Here are some more pictures, thanks to the guys for saving my camera (or damn them, I want a better camera).

I got there early, I wanted to be first but there were already a few people there and it filled up to waiting list quickly.

The first pizza I let my better half pick (since I knew I was getting the MC5 already).  I was skeptical at first (no meat!), but this was an excellent pizza, the Stooges: baby spinach, marinated artichokes, shallots and Parmesan crisps.  Delicious!

The MC5 has WM mozzarella, asiago, fontina, provolone and Parmesan.  Both with a subtle sauce and thin crispy crust.  They also have the full Detroit pizza on the menu as well as a selection of other things for those who might not want pizza (fools!).

The decor is good, nothing fancy, but well designed.  Open and spacious, with booth seating, 4 tops, 2 tops, and bar seating.  Worth a drive to South Austin any day, but wait until Wednesday or Thursday since that is when they will be opening (I think, check before you go).
