Fire wood cutting technique question

Being experimenting with clean cutting the wood with a saw (clean cut) and splitting with an ax (rough cut). Like to know if there is a difference with the way the wood burns and produce a higher temperature or longer burning with either style. I been having inconsistent results because the high humidity here. Any comments will be appreciated.

The most important factor is going to be the size (crosssection) of the piece. All other things being equal, smaller pieces will burn faster and hotter than larger pieces.
