Preparing the yeast

The all trump flour came in that I ordered (flour looks promising), now I have to start practicing preparing the dough. What popular ways or is there only certain ways do you use for preparing the yeast. Does everyone use IDY?
I see different ways like heating the water first, then putting the yeast in , waiting, then mixing in with the other ingredient. I will be using a decent dough mixer and using 2 cups of flour.
