What kind of Fire Bricks?

being an Engineer and someone who has been doing Pizza's once a week for over 25 years... and now that the weather is getting warmer...  and now that i have found this forum...  I want to look at building my own WFO.  So I want to go the Fire brick route but what kind of fire bricks?  there are so many kinds out there.

While the movie Apollo 13 made the phrase "Failure is not an option" popular, in general it is not an engineering phrase. In Engineering, while in the development phase Failure is an option, because until you get to the final design you will have a lot of failures, but you learn from each one.  While this forum will help prevent many failures in my adventure i doubt it will prevent all so i am willing to try things new and different.

Others may have different opinions, but, from what I've seen, you go to your local brick suppliers and find the cheapest firebricks you can find. When you go to brick suppliers, they generally only have one kind. You want to check them for imperfections/irregularities, but the composition isn't all that critical- they just have to be firebricks.

Ask for low duty or medium duty firebrick. Bricks with a high alumina content are pricey and unnecessary for your application.

the only question i have is Hard or Soft?
Since  direct Flame i woudl assume Hard?

Hard.  Depending upon your design, you might want to use some soft (insulating) firebrick in the throat area as a thermal break, but other than that, "regular old firebrick" are fine.
