I just posted a few days ago about wanting to build a LBE out of a square shaped BBQ. Right now I'm tearing it apart and have decided to lower the ceiling in the lid using a sheet of galvanized steel. The distance from the lid to the stone will be about 2 1/2 to 3 inches. I have an extra stone and am wondering if it's worth attaching to the lid or not. Should I fill the space above the lid with foil? Do I really need the upper lid vent? I'm using a 60,000 btu burner and there are also vent holes in the front and back of the base that sits 1 inch below the stone. The distance from the top of the burner to the bottom of the stone will be about 5 inches. Do I need a deflector? I have a slightly smaller stone I can sandwich with or would a piece of steel be better. Finally, is there any value in enclosing the base to reduce it's volume like I'm doing on the lid.
Thanks for any input.
