New from Maryland
« on: March 18, 2012, 05:26:59 PM »
I am thinking of taking the plunge and building a back-yard oven. I am in the process of deciding on a design and came across this company Brickwood Ovens, they seem to be new and I was wondering if anyone has built one of their ovens and how it performs?

WELCOME!!

I am still in the process of finding the right oven for me as well. There is a guy in Bowie who sells Four Mere Italian ovens for a good price. His website is www.breadstoneovens.com I went by and saw his oven it was nice. There is also a less expensive solution (although smaller) in PA at www.roundboyovens.com. This is a VERY innovative easy to build oven.

I had not seen the place you mentioned before! What area of MD are you in?

After looking at the Brickwood Ovens - I like the idea a lot but I have to wonder if that roof is too high to get enough heat to brown the top effectivly? Hopefully and expert will chime in here.

hi there,

I looked at the website and the concept is really cool. However I agree with your comment, the dome of the oven looks really tall, how is you pizza going to brown. Also the opening is so big the oven will lose a lot of heat quickly. The bread stone oven seams to have a good product with a low dome. I need to look further into it before I make my oven selection.

Our member Robynb has a four grand mere which I think I recommended? Which think also  she is very happy,  with And I  still would recommend this oven over the round boy stuff any day. In my opinion there is no comparison  fgm all the way !

Thanks for all the comments. Yes my main concern was the height of the dome, as I think I can partially wall off the entrance to keep heat in. Perhaps I can redesign it with a lower roof.

It is too bad it is a new company as there is no feedback from people who have built it... Do I feel like being a guinea pig?

BTW I am in Rockville.

I think you should contact them, I heard they sold quite a few ovens in the area. If you are in Rockville, you should go to the Bolger Center in Potomac, they bought 2 of the Bread Stone Ovens ovens made by FGM, for their bar the Pony Express Bat and Grill I think is the name. They do live pizza cooking every Tuesday and Thursday night, weather permitting. A friend took me there and it was the best pizza ever and the ovens looked really good.
Also I went to the Bread Stone website and they are located in Laurel, I am going to call them to see if I can look at their ovens and talk to someone.
I will keep you posted of my findings  :pizza:
