My daughter asked me to go along to Green Dragon Farmer’s Market this morning because she wanted to purchase some beats by: dr dre (ear buds) for her cell phone.  Since a lot of stuff is cheaper at Green Dragon I decided to go along.  Green Dragon is the other farmers market where my husband and I used to have the caramel popcorn stand.  There are also great soft pretzels at Green Dragon and I know the owner of that stand very well.  We shopped for awhile at Green Dragon and I got to talk to the new owner of the caramel corn stand I used to own.  It felt funny going inside the stand that my husband and I had run for many years.  Wanda’s soft pretzels are still the best, in my opinion.  The old fashioned conveyor that takes the soft pretzels though the lye bath and into the oven is very interesting.  Wanda of the pretzel stand sells frozen dough pizzas.  I told her if you ever wanted to learn to make regular pizzas I would help Wanda and her husband learn.  They do have a big Blodgett oven in the soft pretzel stand.

If anyone has never been at Green Dragon these are some pictures from Green Dragon Farmers Market and a video of Wanda making the soft pretzels.  The soft pretzel dough look a lot like pizza dough, but three flours are used to make the soft pretzels.

The pictures are only showing a small part of Green Dragon.

Video of making soft pretzels.

Green Dragon is a one day a week farmers market just like Root's, but is bigger than Root's.

Nice pics Norma.  I haven't been there in 10 years.  I will have to try out those pretzels.  Mark

Mark,

Thanks!  Wanda and her other husband used to have a soft pretzel business in Philly and used to sell to the Phillies stadium.  They also used to own the soft pretzel place at Root's, but now Wanda's son runs the one at Root's.  I don't know why, but the soft pretzels at Green Dragon are better than Root's, in my opinion.

Norma, I love flea & farmers markets, so thanks fo posting the pics. I go to the Columbus Farmers Market often and recognize the Amish vendors and their products in your pics. If I get adventurous I might check out that Green Dragon market.

Columbus Market is located on Rt#206 in Columbus NJ. The best foods are..

Kate & Al's Pizza (south end of building)

Chicken Coop (north end of building near Amish section) - They make the best fried chicken and fried potatoes. Potatoes are so unique. Breaded & fried.

Amish Section (north end of building) - Spare Ribs & Babyback ribs, Soft Pretzels (various flavors), and lots of baked goods.

In the outdoor area, check out the braided pretzel vendor. He makes a pizza pretzel and other unique varieties.

---pete--- ,

Columbus Farmers Market really looks neat and big too.  8) Thanks for posting where the best foods are.  What does Kate & Als pizza taste like?  If I am ever in your area I would like to visit Columbus Market.  How many days a week is the Columbus Farmers Market open?  All the foods you posted about really sound good.  I never heard of braided pretzels, but they sound unique.  What does the pizza pretzel look and taste like?  If you ever get the chance could you take some pictures of some of the Columbus Farmers Market?  I would be interested in seeing what it looks like.

At Green Dragon there are two Auntie Anne’s pretzels locations, one stand that Amish people make all kinds of stuffed soft pretzels, plus Wanda’s Magic Wand Pretzel stand.

If you ever get adventurous on a Tuesday, maybe you could come to Root’s where I am.  It is about a half an hour away from Green Dragon.

At Reply 673  http://www.pizzamaking.com/forum/index.php/topic,9908.msg118692.html#msg118692 I also posted a video of what part of Root’s market looks like.  I will repost the video again on this thread.

I will also post those videos on this thread if anyone is interested in seeing what part of Root’s market looks like.

I try to stay away from the antique and flea market, because there are too many things there I would like to purchase.  :-D

What does Kate & Als pizza taste like?
How many days a week is the Columbus Farmers Market open?
What does the pizza pretzel look and taste like?

Kate & Al's pizza is a light & airy rectangular pan pizza similar to a tomato pie where they put the cheese down first and top it with a bright red tomato sauce. The crust is only about 1/4" thick.

The Columbus Market is open Thursday thru Sunday for Produce and the Indoor vendors.
The Amish section is closed on Sundays.
The outdoor flemarket is active on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday but Saturday it's very dead.

If you want the outdoor fleamarket and the Amish, then Thursday 9am to 1pm is the best time to go. Too early outside that time range and vendors are not all setup. Too late after that range and outdoor vendors are already leaving.

Sunday is the best day for the outdoor (same hours as above) but the Amish are not open.

Braided Pretzel vendor is only there when the ourdoor flemarket is active. His pretzels are braided lenghts about 12" long sliced open and filled with tomato sauce & cheese, or cheese steak, and other combos.

I'll try to get some more pics.
