I'm home for two(2) weeks .......... anyone hungry???
« on: December 20, 2005, 07:13:37 PM »
OK, here's what I'm saying. I've got all of next week and the following week open. As I've said before, I'm a Chicagoland guy (suburbs actually). I'll be happier than happy to get together for some eats with anyone(s) up for the idea. Anyway .......... just let me know.

 Hello Iceman
The idea of a Pizza Making Road Trip is being discussed in the Pizza Events & Expo section of the forum. They are discussing a N.Y. trip and our Administrator Steve has brought up a possible June meeting for Chicago. I would never ask any member here to visit Chicago in January,Brrrrrr. I am all in favor of a pizza gathering for some of Chicago's finest.  Chiguy

Hey, I'm happy you replied. I'm new to this board, but I'm not new to the "board world", so to speak. Over on the wine boards we call these "off-lines". At any given time, planned out or spur of the moment, friends get together for an evening of wine enjoyment. Either at someone's home or a restaurant. I would guess for certain that you here would do something like that. I'm just looking to meet up with new friends and eat pizza together. I also just kinda thought that being that Chicago is the real pizza capitol of the world, that there would be a lot of members who live here. As it is, I'm having a little difficulty digesting all the New York pizza conversation that you all seem to have. Anyway .......... I've got two(2) weeks of vacation coming up, if anyone is game for going out to eat, somewhere in the Chicagoland vicinity, with a new guy to these boards, just let me know.

P.S. I'm not looking for a date, I'll be bringing my wife. I'll even offer to cook if anyone wants to come over, but I've got five(5) dogs if that's any problem.

 Hey Iceman,
It is funny you should say that about Chicago being the pizza capitol. I was reading an old Frugal Gourmet cookbook where he states Chicago has more pizza joints per capita than anywhere in the world. I was suprised by this statement, i though it would be N.Y.
Yes the N.Y. section is probably the most dicussed and i am also a big fan of N.Y. pizza as well. I think most people visiting never get to try a real Chicago pizza which is thin crust and not Deep Dish which is just the most famous but equally as good. Stay in touch with the forum and maybe we can put together that pizza road trip eventually. good luck with you're pizza making.   Chiguy

I also live in the Chicagoland area and like the both of you love pizza i'm new to this forum and i'm always willing to try new pizza, i grew in NY and have been to almost every pizza joint(well alot of them) so i favor the NY style pizza but after living here in Chi-Town now for over 10 years i have grow a liking to the chicago style both the stuffed and of coarse the thin. i found a few places that come close to a NY style but I'm determined to replicate a NY style myself and this site is great place for that. Let me know if you guys want to get together sometime and go on a  pizza testing trip like we use to do back in NY.

Thanks

 Hello enob,
I must say i actually enjoy a N.Y. slice as much as Chicago. I have found it difficult to find anyone making a N.Y. style in Chi. There are plenty of places that sell pie slices, but they definetly do not live up to a N.Y. slice. Where are the pizza places you tried that you consider close to N.Y. style??
We have nothing planned yet for a pizza trip but it will happen eventually. I suggested late spring or early summer.      Chiguy

Chiguy:

Thanks for replying a couple of places i have been to in Chicago that come close to Ny Style are Santullo's and Pieces both in the Wicker park section of chicago. maybe you can help me have you found any places here in Chicago that sell the grande Cheese, the Stanislaus tomatoes and the KASL flour? If so can you post where I would be able to purchase them?
Thanks again and i look forward to getting together sometime in the future.

 Hey enob,
I have not tried Santullo's but i have tried Piece Pizza, not too bad. The owner is from the East coast i believe, Connecticut. It has been a couple of years i may have to try them again.
Which is the better of the two. As far as flour i use All Trumps which i get from a friend of a friend. I have not seen any Stanislaus at the big stores at least not by me. I usually use 6/1s which you can find.  The Grande which is good cheese is not available as well. I use a blend of Whole milk mozzarella, part skim & provalone. I have a friend in Elmwood Park on Harlem av.,there are alot of Italian Stores in the neighborhood, i may check a couple out next time i am over there.            Thanks,  Chiguy

For the sweet love of goodness. Doesn't anyone have a car? Haven't you heard of public transportation? I've got a feeling that you all do eat. I'll be happier than happy on any given Wednesday, Thursday, Friday or Saturday evening to meet up with anyone here, at almost any pizza place/joint in all of Chicagoland, for dinner and friendship. Do things like this need some over the top managemental planning? I'll even start it off. Next Friday, January 6, I could be at Home Run Inn, 4254 W. 31st St., 773-247-9696 or Home Run Inn Pizza, 7521 Lemont Rd. Darien, IL 60561-4397, 630-739-9696 (much closer to my house). These things are easy to do. Trust me, I've done this before. Really, it's easy. Anyone who wants to go, just say so. We'll make a decision on the place. It doesn't even have to be Home Run Inn (but since I'm kicking this off, that's my choice).  I'll get a count, make a phone call, reserve a table or tables, and that's it. Anyone can go, Italian, Irish, Greek, Polish, Sweed; but bring cash because I don't think any of the places take checks. (get it?, checks?)(LOL. I crack myself up.)

OK. Forget it. I just got home from lunch buffet at Pizza Hut. Unfortunately, it pretty much sucked. No customer relations/managerial skills. They make all kinds of combinations that sit there not being eaten. They put out a flat pepperoni and the first 2 people inhale it. Absolutely brutal. Anyway, you all had your chance. Maybe next time.

Hey, are you guys talking north side??  I am on the south side of Milwaukee, if it worked out I'd love to hang out and grab a pizza!!  Particularly at a place I have never been (which is most of them....)

My schedule can be tight but if it worked and the invite is open I'd be there!
