Usual heat up time is about 45 minutes. Since the deck is only 24", it can be a bit tight between the fire and the pizza. I usually shovel out some of the hot coals to give some separation between the fire and the pizza. To answer your question though, yes, the use you've suggested is about right. I'm usually bake about 6 pizzas each time.
