Hello there. My name is Alan.
I'm freshly located in Durham, NC. I come from Rochester, NY where pizza is a large, serious business, taking up quite a bit of the phone book. My faves there are the thin, thin pies made by Guido in the Pontillo's Hudson Ave/Ridge Road location. It has that magic that you can't explain and encounter only rarely. When I want something fat and chewy I go to Guida's in Webster, the one in the Hegedorn's building. Also a hit is Joe's Brooklyn in Henrietta, which has thin rounds and thick rectangulars, which makes perfect sense to me.
Now here in Durham, they're not very big on food. In Rochester a loaf of bread or a roll or a muffin comes from an oven. Here in Durham it comes from a freezer, after it came from a factory. I was heartbroken for the first couple of weeks but if that gets my purgatory out of the way I can work with it. And there must be something somewhere. I just have to find it.
Maybe I'm what Durham has been waiting for.
