THAT my fried takes me back to my old bartending/bar manager days in the early 70's into the mid 90's. Used to love me a Gibson now and then, Tanqueray was my choice back then. Now did you go old school using pickled onions or the pickled mushrooms?? I was always torn between the 2. Also are you a strain straight up guy or on the rocks. Used to like a good dry brandy Manhattan too!!

jon

Tanqueray is just fine with me but my wife really likes Bombay Sapphire so we compromised and buy Bombay.  ;D
You know how that  works, eh? The Sapphire is very good, though.
I like pickled onions, have not tried the mushrooms yet. I really love them straight up but it makes me drink them too fast. I think that's part of the martini's legendary powerful kick, gin really sucks if not very cold so you drink those suckers quickly before they get warm. I bought some 2 1/2-inch ice sphere molds which make ice balls that melt very slowly compared to ice cubes and use those. These are the ones I got and they work really well. http://www.amazon.com/Tovolo-Sphere-Ice-Molds-Set/dp/B007ACTN54/ref=sr_1_1?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1377235868&sr=1-1&keywords=ice+molds
I cannot remember the last time I had a Manhattan but that could just be the dying brain cells from the martinis.  :-D

I just finished an Alba Scots Pine Ale which tasted odd enough to me that I had to sip a Buffalo Trace along with it. It does answer the age-old question, "Who the hell would use pine shoots to make beer?" Now I know. The Scots.

Those ice molds are cool daddy-o.  8)  A reviewer said hot water freezes slower and produces a clearer ice sphere.

Froach Heather Ale after a Gibson. In retrospect, should've reversed the order.

That's what I'm sayin sister :-D I'm having 1 more brandy 'neat' and then to bed for an early rise. Making pizza at 10 am to take to a buddies house tomorrow for BREW DAY! He's one of the doc's I work with and every 4-6 weeks it's another 40 gallons of beer he brews and has a pot luck to go with it from 10 am to 5 pm........Everyone brings a dish to pass and he always has 2 beers on tap to drink while we all pitch in to brew the new one. I'm always on the hook for either homemade pies or homemade ciabatta bread and homemade butter. He ain't picky as long as it's one or the other!! BBQ's OK to in a pinch he says and adds if I could arrange it where just my wife brings it over it would be perfect :-D :-D

A Grozet Gooseberry Scottish Ale, by far the best of this Scot Quartet of beers I've been drinking. And a shot of Blanton's bourbon.

Today is brew day.  I'm going to be brewing a nice Belgian Wit spiced with coriander, bitter orange peel, and camomile flowers

While visiting my dad we opened a Pape Clement 1977 that he had traded for some of his art when I was born.
As we were checking the seller we noticed that the bottles had started losing some of its content so we thought it was time to try it.
Despite what we expected since some air had made its way in the bottle, the wine was absolutely amazing.
In the glass the nose was grate and the color a delicate brick color.
In the mouth, it had kept most of its alcohol content, the tannins were perfectly round with a delicate smoky aroma.
Probably the best wine I ever drank  :)
