Buffalo Trace, since the Blanton's is gone.  :( Considering that BT is 1/2 the price of Blanton's and is nearly as good, I'm happy with it. And when I say nearly as good, I'm very serious, BT is that good.

Buffalo Trace is as good as Pappy Van Winkle IMO. In fact I've had it side by side with all of the Pappy's except the 23 and it is impossible (for me and my siblings) to distinguish them.

Personally, I think that is because it probably is Pappy Van Winkle, without the labeling. Pappy is distilled and bottled at BT by Sazerac. PVW doesn't own a distillery, as far as everything I've read says.

That's interesting, thanks for the info. I've never had PVW, glad to hear that BT compares so well.

Man, I'll bet you're popular around there.  :)
We had a full kitchen at the lab and nearly every Friday someone would take a turn preparing a big meal. It got to be sort of a competition until one of the guys made duck a l'orange and the rest of us just gave up and went back to chili and the like.

It's a little self serving too, it lessons the flashback for when I piss off the nurses :-D We do potlucks a lot on Sundays in the units too. I may have asked before, what do you do in the lab?
A little brandy tonight and rented 'Oblivion' from Red Box!

I'm going to have to try that sometime. Sounds great. I love the ideas that come out of this thread.

Had a tasting last night.  Started with two Champagnes. (See pics) Fresh oysters and clams on 1/2 shell and home cured gravlax.  Then vertical of 4 Chablis (William Fevre Les Clos) served with shellfish roasted in WFO.   3 Alsatian Grand Crus from Marcel Deiss Altenberg Berghiem 2006, 2007 & 2008.  Served with potato, leek and sage pies.   3 Kistler Pinots served with mushroom pie ( oyster shrooms, crimini and shitake).  Leoville Las Cases 1989, 1990, 2002 & Quilceda Creek 1998, 2000, 2003 served with dry aged prime rib eyes, my home grown tomatoes with fresh mozzarella, etc.  My wife is a great baker and we washed her German Chocolate cake, cookies and homemade gelato down with 1988 Rieussec and 1989 le haut -Lieu Vouvray.   Outtstanding stuff but the Deiss wines stole the show.
