Goose Island IPA. One of my favourite "mass market" American IPAs easily available in the UK.

Drinking a glass of 2010 Beringer merlot right now. Had some a year or two ago at my parents one night and it's become my go to wine, definitely enjoyable throughout the night  ;)

A rumtopf (literally translated to rum pot) is a tradition originating in Germany and Denmark.  You fill a pot with fresh berries and then cover with rum (some add sugar, but I do not) and let sit for a few months until the fruit is saturated with rum.  Then it can be spooned over vanilla ice cream for a rich desert.

I do it a bit differently - I just add fruit and rum and then let it sit for a long time, periodically removing a bit of the liquor to taste, then replacing with more rum.  The pot in the pic is nearly 14 years in the making - the strawberries you see are of that age.  Tonight I ladled some of the elixir for a tasty nightcap - like nothing else I have tasted.  Hints of berries, honey, and tropical fruit on the palate.

The color is entirely from the fruit and the aging process - whenever I add rum (every couple of years or so), it is completely colorless.

This sounds amazing, 14 years though?! How have you not been tempted to dip into that for so long?

lol, because I'm old and experience age-related memory loss, the pot sits on my counter going unnoticed for years at a time.  The only reason I "discovered" it again is because we remodeled part of the kitchen.  The pot is only about half full, and that is due mostly due to slow seepage and evaporation.

A little E&J before I toss WWZ in the DVD. It's cutting day as I am cutting veggies for my corned beef veggie soup. It all goes in the pot tomorrow!!
