About to offset my 9 cups of black coffee earlier with some black [Guinness] beer now.
I love pigs. They convert vegetables into bacon.

In about 10 more hours I'll be back in the unit making some black ass French Roast, usually triple strength with a spot of whole milk to charge my batteries for another 12 hours! For now, a spot of E&J whilst I bake a dozen chicken legs for my supper tonite (rice on the side) that were in the bargain bin at Coborn's. Bed in about 30 minutes...........

The seasonal beer from Shiner, White Wing, a Belgian whit bier with a very mild taste of coriander and orange peel.  Not as good as Celis, but pretty close, I think they may have stolen the recipe.  Celis is back in business FYI, as an independent brewer. They led the way for craft beer in Texas before selling out to Miller.

Tom, dumb question, but the White Wing has no clove-y note whatsoever, right?  Hefeweizens are my arch enemies ;D I don't mind microscopic amounts of cloves, such as in ketchup, but I really detest clove-y beers.  Even though they're both wheat, I'm pretty sure whits and hefeweizen are apples and oranges, but I wanted to be certain before I invested the $7.

None what so ever.  I am with you, I can not stand beer with that note, and was actually disconcerted when I read that there was coriander in the beer, which I noticed only when I read the label upon opening one.  I doubt you ever had a Celis beer, but it was also made with coriander and orange peel as a whit beir and was one of the best beers I ever had.  The taste was very subtle and crisp with no note of clove.

Scott, the source of the "clove-y note" in hefeweizen beers is a byproduct of fermentation (due to the strain of yeast used) which is distinct from the practice of adding actual spices in brewing Belgian/Flemish style witbiers.

edit: Just poured myself a Weihenstephan Hefe Weissbier ;) Prost! :)
