A bit of Slivovitz http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slivovitz. A fellow respiratory therapist that works with me brought me some of this in to work in a water bottle in trade for some E&J XO I brought him. He's originally from Croatia and loves this stuff, they call it plum brandy and I was curious about it so we traded water bottle samples as I handed off my nite shift to him on day shift. None drank at work of course!! Why they call this brandy is a mystery to me ???. It is more of a moonshine with a fruity essence, NOT sweet, just that fruity backdrop and aroma, with distinct moonshine notes right up front. Brought back some bad memories for sure :-D. I would say as far as moonshine goes, it's the best I've had. NOT good, but the best, shall we say a palatable moonshine! I'll save the rest for others to try that visit the house ;D

We got about 6 inches of snow last night.  So I just came inside from 15 degree weather playing football and tubing with the kids in the snow.  Now drinking some blackberry sage tea to warm up  ;D

If you can find it, the Jefferson Presidential Select 17 year is actual Pappy Juice in a different bottle. Came from Stitzel Weller and having had both, I can attest to its authenticity. It too, being a limited bottling is hard to find now.

Much easier to find, and 2000% cheaper is WL Weller Special Reserve 7 year or the Old Weller Antique 107 Proof. Julian himself says that he drinks the Special Reserve!! These, and the Buffalo Trace brand are all "Wheated Bourbons" (Corn, Wheat and Malted Barley without Rye) and have the characteristics that are so much in demand with the Pappy Juice.

My wife came home with quite a few bottles of the Weller distillations.  I'm now sipping the Special Reserve 7, and I must say that it is one of the best bourbons I have sipped in a while.  At $15 per bottle my wife purchased all they had at the local liquor store.  Too bad it is now discontinued (according to our local distributor)

Many thanks for the tip, John K - we now have a good supply of bourbon.  ;)

The Special reserve 7 is a score. People have caught on to how good it is around here making it very difficult to find. Happy sipping!

That is a very healthy looking supply of the Weller! I need to do another side by side comparison of the 7 year and the 107 proof. I remember that they were both excellent, but I think I preferred the 107 (with 1 ice cube --- she comes in HOT!)

Glad to have helped!

Worrisome news about the Weller, if its true! :o :o
