Jeff,

Those are some special bourbons right there! Were you at an event, or is that your personal stash?
Never had the Pappy Rye --- How was it?

My stash isn't quite at this level yet! It was a get together at a friends house. This was about half of what we had-really amazing stuff. The was my first time having the Pappy Rye too. It's as good as people say! Much different than other ones I've had, to be able to try it was a real treat.

Nice bourbons Jeff...  A couple years ago at Auction, I bought two cases of the A.H. Hirsch 16 year reserve.  It's my birthyear so I figured it might be fun to throw in the cellar.  I have opened one bottle and that was three years ago.  Since then, the pricing on the stuff has gone just NUTTY.  Who knows, if you come 'round here after my b-day next year, there might be a bottle open!  I like it neat.  My friend who loves his bourbon didn't hesitate to drop some ice cubes in it.  Hey, to each, his own!

I'd call it more luck that foresight.  I felt guilty paying what I did back then for the two cases.  I feel a little better about it now.  It's one of those bottles that if you're in BFE you JUST might see one sitting on the top shelf with dust all over it.

Vanilla Porter with a bump of E&J to start my stretch of 7 days off. Making a small 300g dough for a lite capicola pie tonite with some of the porter to hydrate. It was a long haul of 8, 12 hour nites in a row. Ready for some down time!! Great beer btw, first taste this morning....creamy, stoutish taste with a nice finishing hop....I like :-D

Ballast Point - Sculpin IPA. 8)

Fantastic IPA....my favorite that I have yet to try.

In fact I just bought a six pack. My 8:00pm meeting is my last for the day and then I am popping one open as soon as I get home. It's Friday and time to celebrate.....just received great news to help cheer up, a little at least, an otherwide tragic, horrible day.

So what did you think of the Sculpin? It is definitely in my top 10 of IPA's.

I want a beer so bad right now, but there is no point because I wouldn't be able to taste it with this nasty cold that I have come down with. :(

So, it's hot Earl Grey tea for me.

Scotch-Bowmore 15yr Darkest. "Darkest" because it's first aged in bourbon barrels then finished sherry casks.

I like the beer very much. As I mentioned, of the IPAs I have tried, it is my favorite IPA.

That doesn't include double/imperial IPAs (DIPAs, etc.) or regular Pale Ales, but for the IPA style, that Sculpin is excellent.

Hope you kick that cold outta here sooner than later.  :)

LOL, when you said, "my favorite that I have yet to try" I didn't think that made much sense.

Haven't kicked the cold yet but feeling a little better today.

Have the beer, or get some brandy or bourbon with some honey and lemon in that tea of yours. I always say, "if it don't make you better, it'll make you feel better about feeling sh!tty"!!! :-D

Jeff,

I have some very nice rare old wines but I also like to try new ones. One place that I buy from is Wine.Woot, at http://wine.woot.com/. It used to be an independent outfit but Amazon bought them out. The wines offered are discounted and the shipping is only $5. The sellers hope that buyers will like the wines enough to buy more from them at their regular prices and shipping. And sometimes they will have specials as an inducement. I like variety so I am always ordering new and different wines. And they are delivered right to my door by FedEx (someone has to be at home to sign for the wines, although FedEx calls the day before delivery to remind you of this requirement). The offers are open for one day only, so one has to move fast.

Wine.Woot also sells other things. I bought some caramels with fleur de sel that my daughter-in-law and son just loved, and they are pretty picky. The company that makes them is a candy company in Oregon that has been around for almost 100 years. I get daily emails from Wine.Woot and also its affiliated units, and I jump on the caramel offers whenever I see them.
