Just goes to show it don't have to be pricey to be nicey.... 8)

Bob,

That is correct. It can get quite boring forcing myself to drink wines day after day that are over 25 years old. So, from time to time, as penance, I will try recent vintages :-D.

A local brewed (Pflugerville) porter.  Pretty tasty.

To warm up after shoveling the driveway.

Shiner Farmhouse Ale, it is very good for a Saturday morning while cooking up a variation of the Dipping sauce and some chimmichurri (for gifts).

Where do you get that. I've never seen it.

I can state unequivalently that there is no finer beer to drink with Salt Lick BBQ than this brew.  I found it at the local HEB this morning.

Local Brewery Liquid hero makes this amazing beer called "Irregardless IPA" lots of dry hoping and citra hops giving it a very floral nose and a balanced bitterness.  I think this is my new favorite beer.

Yes, it is well written, and appears to be well researched.  It made me thirsty for some corn, so I drove to the neighborhood liquor store to buy some to sip along with the book.  Unfortunately, all they had were fifths, which is way beyond my needs.  While there I also looked for a split of a dry white wine, of which I need 1/3 of a cup (none of my neighbors drink white wine) for a recipe for taralli which I plan on making tomorrow.

He was kind enough to open a bottle of crappy (is there any other kind) of dry white wine and give me a glass full as a sample.  He also gave me a bottle of Batch 19, a Miller product, to try.  It is very good, I would call it very close to the Farmhouse ale from Shiner I had the other night.

Luckily, from the store to my house, while almost 2 miles, is pretty much a private road, since I had to hold that glass of wine up all the way home.  I must not be too drunk, since I didn't spill a drop.

It was worth the trip to Austin just to see Tom's personal library.

I am not a proud man, but I am proud of my library (the books), which I have been accumulating for 40 odd years.

Penance, schmenance. Getting in touch with my inner Peter ;D, I dug into my wine fridge and came up with... 1982 Chateau Talbot (given the full treatment in a tasting glass for mature Bordeaux wines).

I am home alone and cooking, so it is beer-thirty already.  This is the first bottle of beer I have ever had to open with a corkscrew, Gavroche French red ale.  Pretty good, but probably will not make the re-buy list.

Tribute (St Austell Brewery). Really nice balanced ale which I've been enjoying a lot of recently.

After making pizza for a birthday party with 11 screaming and giggling 11-12 year old girls, I finally get to sit down and relax with a Founders Centennial IPA. 8)
