Took a trip to the Tuthilltown Spirits distillery today and went on the tour + tasting with some friends followed up by dinner next door at the restaurant. Got some late birthday goodies that I will most definitely be enjoying soon ;D

Hey PZ.... How do you drink your Kraken??

Neat, lately, but sometimes with a single cube - especially in the summer  ;D

Right now I'm choking down a Trader Joe's Syrah

Bracing for the storm that's supposed to hit the UK tonight.

Kernel London Brick collaboration red rye ale (collaboration with Redemption/Dark Star I think?) Another fantastic brew from Kernel. I've yet to sample a bad beer from them. Quality every time.

chasenpse,
Did you try their corn whiskey? It's popcorn moonshine. Great stuff.

Went to the distillery when I was back home in the Hudson Valley in August.

Folks need to check them out. http://www.tuthilltown.com/ - http://hudsonwhiskey.com/

Indeed. I tried both the baby bourbon (even though I've had it plenty of times ;D) and the unaged corn whiskey, which was not what I was expecting. I thought it would have a harsh, dry bite to it but rather it was mildly sweet (but not overwhelming) and 'buttery', coating the roof of your mouth. Definitely gave me a different perspective about moonshine! Ralph (the co-founder), spoke about the bringing about of their Maple Cask Rye, which was such a hit that they sold out almost immediately. There should be more coming out within the next few weeks according to him, although from what I was told it's a very limited batch and was previously only released in New York and California. If you come across it I'd definitely recommend picking up a bottle or two before it's gone again.

The second I walked into their fermentation room that familiar scent of yeast and alcohol hit my nose and got me all sorts of giddy just like my starter does when it comes out of hibernation :-D

Love their Manhattan Rye. Would love to try that Maple Cask Rye, but not expecting a lot from it. Not a fan of Crown's Maple stuff.

Dark Star Six Hop

Despite the name (and claim of six different hops added at six different stages) it seems to be rather lacking in hoppiness. Mostly honey and malt. Not bad but not what I was expecting.
