I am a Commissioning Engineer, we basically test the newly installed systems in critical mission facilities to make sure that they operate in accordance with the design. Before that I managed the maintenance department in manufacturing plants for 17 years, prior to that I worked in a foundry, a paper mill, an electrical contractor, 8 years in the Coast Guard, and various part time jobs in school including one as a line cook.

Facility Maintenance is one of the occupations that have a dwindling population, not due to less demand but an aging factor. I think the last time I read on it the avg age is pushing 50. Due to the varied hats one must wear, electrical, plumbing, boiler, HVAC, pressurized gasses for medical use, etc., many young people don't look to get into the field. They would rather get the one hat and get a job. Anyone that is looking to get a job I think this one has many opportunities, but please correct me if I'm wrong. At least in my area it does. At the hospital where I work in Mpls most of the maint. guys are in their 50's, need fresh young blood.

You are correct, it was very hard to find anyone that wanted to be in facilities maintenance, most of the guys that worked for me were 45+ and quite a few were 60+. It can be a very good career for someone that likes to work with their hands and doesn't like doing the same thing every day.

After 10 years in the Air Force, stayed with my passion, Aviation. Currently Airport Ops Manager at SJU. Have Pilots license but the only thing I'm flying now is my desk (and the WFO). My other passion? Pizza off course.

After 7 years of being the Executive Director (and janitor) of a small youth development non-profit that I founded, I am now evaluating options for what's next. Most likely one is to return to my former life of organizational consulting - strategy development, leadership development, conflict resolution, executive coaching.

I am jealous jealous jealous, that's a skill that would be so much fun to do regularly. I took a pretty old Jeep YJ and redid it from ground up back in 2009. My family has always been into the older 4x4's instead of the muscle car scene though. Dad has five of the first generation Ford Bronco that need restoring. Hard to find reliable people around here to do the work that we can't do though.

Yeah he has one out back with the factory PTO on it, but I doubt he would part with it! It was bought just as a parts truck, and two of the other he has are parts trucks as well. Disc brake axles, etc, since two of them are the Ranger edition.

He's gonna use the three parts Broncos on the fourth one (That is in good shape body wise) to build it as a modified lifted version and use the fifth orange one and restore it back to original since it only has 18,000 original miles on it. The owner used a pencil to write on the dash the oil change dates and the last one was in 1989 and it had 16,500 miles on it. We bought it sitting in a hunting camp he had about two weeks before he passed away. I think that's the one that he is going to hand to me down the road, and maybe it will be already restored by then.

Sick Bronco too there Bob, kinda looks like the one we're gonna modify except that one looks to be a factory Ranger model with a lift and cut rear fenders. Those are pretty rare.

Haha I wanna get it rolling now. It runs and all but could use a little body touch up. Let you haul that baby up there and get her shot down with some primer and paint! Hard to find a good body shop around here too that isn't outrageous. I'll post some pictures of the Bronco sometimes though and let y'all see what y'all think. Sorry if this is off topic too much. I'll start a new thread when I get pics.

I have a buddy that I used to work with at Mpls Children's Hosp. that was also an RT and he was an International Scout "FREAK". Helped him load a huge semi load of misc parts, enough to build a 1/2 dozen of them when he moved to the Vegas area. BIG into rock crawling and such. Quite the wrench head and a damned good Respiratory Therapist too!!

Most of my buddies in the medical field like to get out and do crazy stuff too, a lot of them have Jeeps they go and get crazy with. Probably because we were all raised in a small town where that was just about all there was to do besides getting out in the woods before we turned 16. Not much rock crawling here in Alabama though. Mostly mud based events. LOL.

I guess RT gives you a good bit of free time to work on projects. Gonna be a problem for me if I get into the law field. Be bringing a lot of work home with me.

Secondary (13 -18 yr olds) Mathematics teacher in Broome Western Australia. I've been teaching for 20yrs great hours good holidays good job. Broome is a small resort town in the north west of Australia with a population of about 10000 which swells to 20000+ during tourist season. We also have 3 mobile wfo operators of which i am one, teaching fits in nicely with running a (very) small pizza business.
