Author Topic: Very Cool Way to Separate Egg Yolk and Egg White (Read 1076 times)

I find it very hard to believe someone has a better way to separate eggs. I've always just broken the egg into my hand and let the white slip through the fingers - messy, but effective. But I think this is the way I will do it from now on:

I usually just pour the white out of the half shell and catch the yolk with the other half shell but I think I will also adopt this technique from now on.

I've always done the fingers thing too, more than 1 I'll crack them all in a bowl and pick them out. But, that look kinda neat, I'll be giving it a try

On a related subject: I'd always heard that, when beating eggs whites, it was essential to use an immaculate bowl and whisk without a trace of grease and to prevent even the tiniest bit of yolk from getting in the whites. For many years I obeyed this totally bogus advice.

LOL that's an awesome method. I never saw that coming either, totally unique. BTW, I still prescribe to the no grease or fat in whites but have never tested getting just a bit in there. It doesn't matter if there is a touch of it? If so it would take a lot of stress out of whipping whites.

I don't think I've ever NOT been able to whip whites up and I know I've had yolk pieces in there. I figured try it before I toss it....always worked

That's one of theose things that is so obvious once you see it, you can't believe nobody thought of it sooner. As soon as I saw the plastic bottle, I knew exactly what was going to happen. Very cool.

When I saw the bottle, I assumed it contained water and that water pressure was somehow going to be involved. Wrong!

eggs did not go to waste, made some scrambled for Warden Rosie when I got home and she asked what the water bottle was for? I showed her and she laughed her ass off

When you get 1 yolk in tip back, squeeze again before you tip back down, onto next yolk, tip back repeat......you get the idea. 4 egg yolks in the bottle and could have kept going but didn't want to eat too much before bed

New idea I'll show you guys tommorrow with corn dogs, pretty cool!

Used this technique today. It works great! For those who can't view the video, it involves using a plastic water bottle to pick up and separate the yolk. You do this by squeezing the bottle and placing the opening gently on the yolk. The vacuum created sucks the yolk up separating it from the white.
