That's why I say start prepping to pull out. Don't wait until the last moment. Get your essentials in a waterproof bag (identity docs, house title, car title, financial papers, any other stuff it would be a bear to replace) and pack a overnight bag with clothes you don't mind wearing for a while. Prepare the cat carrier & make sure you know where the leashes are.
There's nothing worse than fumbling in the dark, feeling the panic. Preparation will ease your mind and allow you to function even in the worst of situations.
