One of the times that I saw Zappa was at Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Columbus, Ohio. IMO, the acoustics in Vets Memorial is terrible. I saw several concerts there and the sound was poor at all of them except for Zappa's. In addition to being a great musician, he knew sound and the engineering involved. I have heard that he was very involved in the sound setup at his concerts and would show up early to make sure that everything was perfect. If he could make Vets Memorial sound great, he had to be good.
When I was 15 I saw a decent early Styx concert while sitting on the wood gym floor at my high school in Il.Pretty awesome.... 1974
I'll bet that was awesome. Tommy Shaw is great.
Yesterday on another forum, I posted this as a "favorite album cover"
Carolina Hard-Core EcstasyGot to love Don Van Vliet as well
Zappa invented many pieces of sound synthesizers and enhancement equipment including I think the wawa. One of his main gigs was writing music for orchestras that was quite good as well. Considered by many to be a musical genius and contrary to popular belief, DID NOT do drugs. Said he tried it and didn't like the sh1t. Very much an eccentric musical prodigy!!!
